Alpha Cluster

10/07/2016

A great time was had by one and all at the Alpha Cluster hosted by the Appleton family on their beautiful property Islay Plains.

We had two fun filled days where we investigated camouflage, animals that camouflage, survival, following directions, scavenger hunts and most importantly teamwork!

We designed and created camouflage insects out of natural materials and hid them in the Appleton’s garden to be found by our classmates. We discussed how and what we would need to survive on a desert island, then worked in teams together to create a parachute to ensure that our ‘Survival Capsule’ (a raw egg) would survive the aeroplane drop and secure our survival on the desert island. There were some very creative solutions!

A highlight of the cluster was the lolly drop from the helicopter on our first afternoon, even if at first, the children thought that Mr Appleton was flying away with their lollies!

We would like to say a great big thank you to the Appleton family and Home Tutors for hosting, the RAFS for coming along and everyone else who made it possible for us to have such a wonderful time.
