Beasley Sensei's Adventure

During the September school holidays I was lucky enough to travel to Japan as I was awarded the Saitama Guest Teacher Scholarship.  This enabled me to undertake professional development in Saitama, Japan for 2 weeks.  Saitama and Queensland have been sister states since 1984 and the Saitama Prefectural Board of Education awards two scholarships per year to two teachers from Queensland.  This year I was lucky enough to be one of those teachers.

I stayed with a host family in a small town in the north-west of Saitama Prefecture and visited many schools within the area.  My base school was Kumagaya Boys Public Senior High School.  The teachers and students were very welcoming and helpful during my stay.  I was able to see lots of things around the school like club activities and be involved in their sports day.  I was also able to visit other schools in the area including the local primary and junior high school.

My host family took me to visit the local attractions in the area so I experienced many different aspects of the culture and of course the cuisine!  It has been 17 years since I last visited Japan and so many things have changed.  Thank you Mr Bielenberg for supporting my application, I can’t wait to travel back….maybe with a school group!!!!???
