Year 7 Camp

Just last week, our great group of year 7’s ventured out on a Year 7 camp to Brisbane and the Gold Coast. We were all rather excited because we had some wonderful and awesome things planned ahead of us.

On Monday we left our parents at the airport and flew to Brisbane. Mrs Beasley and Mrs Bailey flew down to Brisbane with our Emerald group. In the Brisbane airport we met Miss Peterson and Miss Green, without any students! The Rockhampton flight was delayed so we had to go to the Gallery of Modern Art ahead of them. We met the Rocky students there later on. At the Gallery of Modern Art we saw a display of African and Australian animals drinking from a waterhole. We saw a big gumtree that was in the middle of the room and an awesome display of wolves jumping through the air. The interactive activities were great fun and very interesting. We then jumped on the bus and ventured off to our accommodation at the Gold Coast.

Tuesday was SURFING DAY. Heaps of fun and laughter was had by all as we were given lessons in surfing. Some of us were naturals and some of us were not. That night we put on our best dress and headed to the Outback Spectacular for a great show.

Wednesday saw us travel back up to Brisbane to visit the Police Museum, Suncorp Stadium and lunch and a swim at Southbank. The police museum was an interesting place with a crime scene for us to solve and plenty to help us understand all about police work.  The excitement built as we headed to Suncorp Stadium. The roar of our group echoed through the whole stadium. It was amazing to experience where great sportsman have strived to achieve for their teams.

Thursday was the best day of camp – DREAMWORLD DAY!!  Arriving in the bus, we saw all those rides we had been excitedly talking about. We realized how huge some of them really were! The Buzzsaw was first on the list and looked terrifying. Miss Green was the dare devil and persuaded us all to get on. Once we got off, we did realise it was a good choice of ride. It was awesome. The rest of the day continued with more awesome rides such as the Shockwave, the Cyclone rollercoaster and the Giant Drop, just to name a few. It brought out the dare devils in us and the day was incredibly fun with lots of laughter.

Sadly we had to head for home on Friday. A quick but interesting visit to the Qld Museum was had before we headed to airport to board our planes.

The week went too fast and even though we were quite tired, we could have happily done it all over again. It was a wonderful week with friendships strengthened, risks taken, heaps of laughter and fun, and lots of great memories.

Thanks so much to our 3 courageous teachers who ventured on our year 7 camp with us – Miss Green, Mrs Beasley and Miss Petersen. They helped to make our camp enjoyable and very memorable. The whole week was AWESOME!!
