Alternative learning

Capricornia School of Distance Education supports Alternative Learning  by providing a differentiated curriculum to suit individual needs.
Alternative Learning Programs are designed primarily for Years 10 – 12 students who are disengaged with mainstream schooling and seek an educational pathway that will lead to employment.

The role of the school is to provide the educational program and to support the centre and students during course delivery. The role of the centre is to supervise the students’ work. Monitoring of student progress is the responsibility of both the school and the centre. We currently support students in areas of Emu Park, Mount Morgan, Rockhampton and Yeppoon.

The Alternative Learning Space (ALS) is a flexible learning environment for disengaged students looking to improve their literacy and numeracy skills. The space offers two programs to cater for the different needs of students within the unique Central Queensland catchment: Short courses and Basic Key Skill Builder (BKSB). Both programs enable students to reengage in a flexible, non-threatening environment to gain valuable literacy and numeracy skills.

Completion of these programs provides students with vast opportunities to further their education or source future employment. Students will receive regular support from a Capricornia School of Distance Education teacher and onsite supervisors for all coursework.
