Capricornia School of Distance Education engages students from Prep to Year 6 in our supportive distance learning community.
Primary School teachers work together across the Emerald and Rockhampton Campus and within year levels to plan purposefully and achieve curriculum goals.
Preparatory year is generally a transition from experiential learning to more formal learning outcomes but remains child-centred. It clearly identifies enquiry-based learning and investigations as key elements. Parents play an active role in working with their child. Teachers support parents and plan for children's learning using five early learning areas that are linked to the curriculum that is used in primary school year levels. The teacher's planning will respond to children's needs and interest. Teachers will monitor assess and reflect on children's learning. Resources for Prep are designed to support active learning.
Students in Years 1 to 6 and their Home Tutors will engage with a range of learning materials that are appropriate for their stage of development. These resources are in the form of printed materials, digital resources, and on-line resources.
Students participate in a blended model of both digital, paper materials and online class lessons with individual support available if required. It is an expectation that all students will have access to a computer and the Internet.
