At Capricornia School of Distance Education, Field Services are an essential part of our commitment to supporting remote learners. These face-to-face opportunities complement distance education by helping students connect with teachers and peers, develop social and academic skills, and engage in meaningful, hands-on learning.
Field Services include:
Together, these experiences reduce isolation, strengthen relationships, and provide students with a well-rounded education that supports both personal and academic growth.
Clusters
Clusters bring school to students, rather than students travelling long distances. Held in central regional locations on designated cluster days, they provide valuable in-person learning and social opportunities. Families are also invited to host clusters, ensuring accessibility across remote areas.
Mini-Schools
Mini-Schools are week-long, immersive programs held at either the Emerald or Rockhampton campus. They combine curriculum-based activities—such as STEM projects, science, art, and excursions—with wellbeing experiences like shared meals, peer connections, and community building. Scheduled each term, Mini-Schools enhance academic engagement while strengthening school community ties.
Home Visits
Home visits provide personalised, face-to-face support for students in their home learning environment. Teachers observe learning setups, offer guidance, and tailor strategies to meet student needs. All Prep students receive a home visit, while students in other year levels are visited on a needs basis. These visits also strengthen relationships between teachers, students, and Home Tutors.
School Camps
For students in Years 4–6, annual camps offer opportunities to develop leadership, teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills. Camps combine curriculum learning with social interaction, helping students grow personally and socially in a supportive environment.
Excursions
Excursions provide real-world learning experiences linked to the curriculum. Students gain hands-on insights into their studies while building connections with classmates. Parents are notified in advance, and permissions are always required.
Home Tutor & Student 'Get Set Days'
These sessions are held at the beginning of the year and support the vital role Home Tutors play in distance education. Held online and face-to-face, they offer practical guidance on curriculum delivery, assessment requirements, online platforms, and learning strategies. 'Get Set Days' strengthen the school–home partnership, ensuring families feel confident in supporting their child’s education.
