When you live outside the usual reach of a regular school — or if conventional schooling just doesn’t suit your child’s needs — the choice of school can feel overwhelming. At CapSDE, we believe that distance doesn’t mean compromise.

A history of supporting rural, remote and home-based learners

Since 1993, CapSDE has delivered distance education across Central Queensland, from eKindy all the way through to Year 12. We operate across two campuses — our Rockhampton campus and our Emerald campus — yet we function as one unified school, bridging the distance so children everywhere can have access to a full Prep–Year 12 education.

Whether your family lives in a remote area, travels frequently, faces medical or lifestyle challenges — or simply wants another option — CapSDE offers an inclusive, flexible learning solution.

A complete, quality curriculum

CapSDE delivers a full Prep-to-Year 12 curriculum through online learning, so your child can stay on track academically.

For primary students (Prep–Year 6), our teachers — whether at Emerald or Rockhampton — collaborate to offer structured, meaningful learning in a nurturing, supportive environment.

For older students, CapSDE offers a wide array of subject choices, including general and applied subjects, VET (vocational education and training), and even specialised programs.

This means your child can access courses that their local school might not offer — a major benefit for those chasing specific interests, future tertiary pathways or unique career goals.

Real connection — not just a computer screen

CapSDE is more than remote schooling. Through Field Services, we offer real, face-to-face opportunities: cluster visits, mini-schools, home visits, camps, excursions, and “Get Set Days” for home tutors and students.

These events help reduce the isolation that sometimes comes with distance learning — giving students chances to socialise, learn hands-on, and build friendships, while giving parents and tutors a sense of community and support.

Flexible enrolment options to suit different situations

CapSDE understands that every family’s situation is different. That’s why there are two pathways to enrol:

  • Home-based enrolment — ideal if you live remotely, travel often, have medical needs, or choose home-based learning. Under certain circumstances (remote location, medical, itinerant lifestyle or caregiver responsibilities), students may qualify for fee-free enrolment. Capricornia State High School

  • School-based enrolment — for students already enrolled in another state school but needing to take one or more subjects through CapSDE because their base school doesn’t offer them, or timetable clashes occur. Capricornia State High School+2Capricornia State High School+2

This flexibility means you can tailor your child’s education pathway to your family’s needs — whether full-time or part-time, academic or vocational.

How to take the next step

Getting started is easy: visit the CapSDE enrolments page online, or reach out directly via the contact details on the CapSDE website. One enquiry could be the start of a smoother, more flexible, and supportive schooling journey for your child.

Don’t let distance or uncertainty hold you back. At CapSDE, we’re ready — and committed — to helping every student reach their highest potential.
