Capricornia School of Distance Education offers a Laptop Hire Scheme to provide students with access to the technology required to fully engage in their education. The scheme provides families with a convenient and cost-effective alternative to purchasing a laptop outright, while ensuring students have access to a device that meets the school's technical requirements.
Who Can Participate?
The Laptop Hire Scheme is available to full-time CapSDE students from Prep to Year 12. Participation is optional and remains in place for the duration of the student's enrolment unless families choose to opt in or out by submitting a new participation agreement.
What's Included?
The annual hire fee includes:
- School-issued laptop
- Laptop carry bag
- Postage and distribution costs
- Technical support
- Scheduled servicing and software updates throughout the year
- Access to a device configured to support learning requirements
All laptops remain the property of the Department of Education and are provided for educational use and limited personal use.

Students enrolling part-way through the year will only be charged for the remaining terms. For example:
- Enrolment in Term 1: Total laptop hire cost $400
- Enrolment in Term 3: Total laptop hire cost $200
Payment Options
Families may choose from:
- A single annual payment
- Termly instalments
- A negotiated payment plan
Payments can be made via BPOINT or EFTPOS once an invoice has been issued. Families experiencing financial hardship are encouraged to contact the school confidentially to discuss available support options.
Student Responsibilities
Students participating in the scheme are expected to:
- Take reasonable care of the laptop and carry case
- Use the device in accordance with Department of Education policies
- Keep account details and passwords secure
- Return the laptop for scheduled servicing when requested
- Back up important files regularly
- Report any faults, damage, loss or theft as soon as possible
Intentional damage, misuse, or failure to take reasonable care of the device may result in repair or replacement costs being charged to the family.
New and Continuing Students
Families joining the scheme for the first time are required to complete a Laptop Hire Scheme Participation Agreement. Existing participants will continue in the scheme unless they advise the school otherwise. Families who choose not to participate are responsible for providing a suitable device that meets school requirements.
